About Ralph Schaeffer
To say Ralph Schaeffer was a wonderful man, is an understatement. He was a happy, diligent, giving person who loved life. And, everybody loved him. Ralph was very active in the Boise community volunteering at many non-profit organizations: Nature Center, Botanical Gardens, Discovery Center, Idaho Conservation League, Basque Museum, PIT projects, and others. People knew when Ralph was called upon to help out, he always arrived with a smile on his face and an intention to work hard and give his all.
Work, play, or taking care of his family, Ralph worked hard at everything he did. He was a strong man with the determination to get things done and to do it right. When doing a project or taking a vacation, he would research and absorb as much information as possible to make the task less difficult, or in the case of vacation more enjoyable, fun, and worth every penny. Taking in the vast beauty which surrounds us all was never taken for granted.
Ralph loved life so much that he did not want to compromise any of it. When he learned of his lung cancer and there was very little to do to prolong his life, he accepted it with dignity and in an odd way with gusto. He did not want to go through many months of a diminished life style. He bit the bullet and remained strong through all the pain and difficulties. He died with the same qualities he lived life…to the fullest!
For these reasons, we are pleased to present the Ralph Schaeffer Quality of Life Scholarship with the intention to improve the life of others so that they may embrace all aspects of life with gratitude and improved health. The scholarship award is supported by the ethics by which Ralph lived his life.
